ONE lane of the M6 southbound is still closed due to resurfacing work following a lorry fire yesterday (Wednesday).

The lane that is closed is between junction 40 and junction 39.

Firefighters were called at 1.29am yesterday to the report of the fire.

Two crew members in breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and three compressed air foam systems to put out the blaze before damping the vehicle down. They were at the scene for around two hours.

Traffic is reported to be coping well this morning. Recovery of the lorry has been completed and emergency resurfacing works are ongoing, likely until Friday morning rush hour.
