THE Freemasons of Cumberland and Westmorland have made a donation of £600 to the Kendal Amateur Boxing Club.

The donation has been made to help fund the visit of six promising and very talented young members, at a boxing event in Denmark.

The young fighters are preparing to travel to Denmark on October 6, 2018, to attend a five-day training camp and then compete over three days, at a multi-nations boxing tournament in Hillerod, Copenhagen, Denmark.

The team that will represent the club are: 12-year-old Reece Johnson; 13-year-old Fin Rayner; 14-year-old Lewis Baldwin; 14-year-old Laughlin Savage; 17-year-old Sol Huntley and 17-year-old Connor Thorpe.

The Provincial Grand Master of the Freemasons of Cumberland and Westmorland, Norman J Thompson, DL, along with Worshipful Brother Chris Gabbott, attended a very skilful and entertaining boxing demonstration, given by the club members on Friday, May 11, after which he presented a cheque to Mr Alan Willoughby, the club’s head coach.

The Provincial Grand Master said: “I can’t help but be very impressed by the skills of these very enthusiastic young boxers and by their head coach for instilling such discipline and dedication.”

Kendal Amateur Boxing Club, was founded in 1974, by Alan Willoughby who incidentally is also a freemason.

The club currently has a membership of 35 boxers ranging from 9 years old to 30 years old.

Over the years, the Kendal club has produced many regional Amateur Boxing Association Champions.
