MORE than 40 people took part in a Try Sailing Day held in Arnside on Bank Holiday Monday.
The event is part of a national promotion by the Royal Yachting Association with sailing clubs up and down the country giving people the chance to get out on the water in a boat.
Alasdair Simpson, of Arnside Sailing Club, said: “We had a great time taking people out in the lovely summer weather.
"When the tide is in and the sun is out, there are few places better than Arnside in which sail.
"We want to give as many people as possible a chance to sail at Arnside. In the past four years we have doubled our membership.
"Last year as a result of successful grant applications we brought nine new boats. With membership fees of only £60 a year, a free children’s programme, learn to sail courses and club boat there has never been a better time to start sailing at Arnside.”
