ON OUR travels we came across these seven public toilets (all free admission) in a small busy tourist town, roughly the size of Staveley.
It was hard to believe that they were in the same country as our Lake District, where it can cost up to 30p per visit. In Kendal, of course, there aren't any at all, so the bemused tourist has to search for various places where you may use their facilities.
I suggest to our council that an ideal place for a similar block of loos as those in Portreath, Cornwall, would be the fabulous hub of Kendal. One option would be the New Road development where families of tourists may picnic by the river, gazing at a never ending stream of traffic nearby.
The presence of toilets on the spot would be so reassuring to people taken short and I'm sure they'd be very impressed by our town.
Surely an extra few grand could be raised in addition to the amount already spent on this fabulous new amenity. There was always a toilet here in bygone days.
