To mark the 200th anniversary of The Westmorland Gazette in 2018, we are publishing a photograph from our archives on our website every day this year.
Today's photograph shows an artist’s impression of Mosquitoe planes attacking a U-boat base, which appeared in The Westmorland Gazette as part of fund raising article for the RAF, in March 1943. The Kendal and district 'Wings for Victory' Week from April 2-10 that year, had set a target of £275,000 - sufficient to buy five Mosquito bombers and 25 Spitfires.
