POLICE in Lancashire want to speak to a man with links to South Cumbria in connection with a serious assault.

35-year-old James Stovold is described as being 5ft 9in tall, of stocky build with a shaven head or short hair. Stovold has links to Morecambe, Lancaster and South Cumbria.

Lancashire Constabulary was called at around 9:30pm on May 4 to reports a man had been seriously assaulted on Lancaster Road in Morecambe with what is believed to be an axe.

The victim sustained injuries to his head and body and was taken to hospital. He has since been discharged.

Acting DS Andrew Clitheroe of Lancaster CID, said: “We’d like to speak to Stovold as part of our investigation and are appealing to anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

“I’d also urge James, if he sees this appeal to attend the nearest police station.”

A 25-year-old-man from Morecambe has been arrested in connection with this incident. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later released under investigation.
