CUMBRIA Trading Standards have warnside residents in Arnside and the surrounding areas to be 'wary' of cold callers.
It has received reports of fish sellers operating from a white van, cold calling.
Trading Standards has asked people to report any uninvited fish salesmen operating within these areas.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Trading Standards said: "Fish sellers visiting Cumbria are known to engage in cold calling activities asking residents to purchase large amounts of frozen fish on the doorstep. This fish is generally of poor quality, unrefrigerated and short weight. Doorstep sellers often demand a cash or cheque payment and can be very persuasive in their selling techniques.
"Cumbria Trading Standards and Cumbria Police advice is simple; don’t let uninvited doorstep sellers of any kind into your home. Often these sellers prey on the most vulnerable who are less likely to refuse what may appear to be a bargain. For all your goods and services it is better to deal with reputable traders operating out of fixed premises who you know and trust."
