CUMBRIA Police have received reports of more than 25 weather-related incidents across the county since 6am this morning.

Many of these are reports are of trees or branches falling into the road causing initial blockages.

There have been no reports of any serious collisions.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the county, as Storm Hector brings winds of up to 60mph.

Police are working with colleagues at the Highways Agency to clear roads but are urging motorists to drive to the conditions.

Advice is for motorists to slow down, allow extra time for your journey and be vigilant of branches or other objects on the road.

There is slow traffic on the A6 both ways at Hanson Quarry due to an earlier fallen tree which has been cleared. The road re-opened at 10.25am.

There is slow traffic to a fallen tree on the A65 both ways near Dovehouses Lane near Nook.

The B5289 is partially blocked due to fallen tree near Ashness Bridge. Traffic is coping well.

The road is blocked due to a fallen tree near the B5289 between Buttermere and Honister near to the youth hostel.

And the newly refurbished Shap Pool has had to close due to storm damage.

Service is suspended on Virgin Trains West Coast and Transpennine Express between Lancaster and Carlisle due to overhead line problems.

Two trees have fallen onto the overhead wires and pulled them down.

Passengers travelling to/from Scotland are advised to try and use the East Coast mainline.

And Cumbria's coastline has been put on flood alert.

The Environment Agency issued flood alerts yesterday evening to cover today's high tide, due around lunchtime.

Where are the alerts and for what time?

Between Millom and St Bees Head, the high tide is forecast for 12.30pm with tides due to be at their highest two hours either side of that time. Braystones is the location most likely to be affected.

Between Silloth and St Bees, the high tide is forecast for 1pm with tides due to be at their highest two hours either side of that time. Maryport is the location most likely to be affected.

Between Gretna and Silloth, the high tide is forecast for 1pm with tides due to be at their highest two hours either side of that. Port Carlisle is the location in the north of the county where the agency says will "likely be affected".

North Morecambe Bay also has a flood alert in place, covering the high tide expected at 12.20pm with Canal Foot and Sandside that could be affected.

The flood alerts state: "Tidal spray and onshore flooding may occur to roads and some propertiesalong the coast may be affected.

"People are warned to stay away from the coast."
