CHANGING weather conditions and heavier winds brought added challenges in the Royal Windermere Yacht Club’s races over the past week.

“Feisty” is how one competitor described the lake.

In the Seventeen Footers’ class, the weekend race was won by Liberty (Colin Bentley) with Capella (Robert Hughes/Richard Thompson) in second place and Atholl (Roy Gambie/Nick Aubrey) in third.

There was also a lot of dinghy activity over the past week with the Thursday night race won by Robert Richardson, beating father John Richardson.

Both sail RS100s.

In third place was Richard Thompson in his GP14.

The June Dinghy Handicap series continued on Saturday with two races.

Gavin Benbow won the first race in an RS100 10.2 with Peter Wright in his Devoti D-One in second place.

In the second race on Saturday, John Richardson took the top spot and Peter Wright came second.

In the overall Dinghy Handicap series, the Richardson family’s domination continued but with some challenge.

John Richardson (father) is currently in top spot, with son Robert Richardson lying third.

The Richardson clan are split by Judith Gore in second place in her GP14.

The Flying Fifteens continue to battle it out between Niffty, Vital Statistix, Carbon Footprint and Felix Felicis.

In the first of the weekend’s Flying Fifteen’s races, Felix Felicis (Julian Newman) took first place, with Niffty (Nigel Tullett) in second.

In the second race, Niffty came first, followed by Vital Statistix (Keith Jamieson).

Niffty, though, remains overall leader in the Flying Fifteens’ series, with Carbon Footprint in overall second place at present.

The club’s Youth Squad had to demonstrate their determination and resilience in the past week’s windy conditions, with fantastic efforts in their mid-week practice sessions.

Several youth members were seen to capsize, skilfully righting themselves and their craft to continue their session.

Next weekend the Royal Windermere Yacht Club will be hosting the GBR blind sailing team on Windermere.
