BOOTHS cardholders will now have to bring a reusable cup to the supermarket if they want to enjoy a free brew.

Previously, customers with a Booths card could enjoy a free hot drink from the coffee machine in a takeaway cup provided by Booths.

A spokesperson for Booths said: “Booths are very much aware that the number of disposable cups we give away is unsustainable for the environment and the business.

“Customers will still be able to get a free hot drink from the coffee machine by bringing in their own reusable cup, alternatively Booths cardholders can get a half price takeaway hot drink in a disposable cup. Booths will no longer be serving free hot drinks in the café, but customers will be offered half price hot drinks with no food purchase required.

“To further reduce the impact on the environment, later this year we will be introducing a disposable coffee cup recycling scheme in all Booths stores, encouraging customers to return disposable cups where we can send them to a specialist recycling plant.

“Excess coffee grounds from our cafes and coffee machines will be collected and repurposed into eco heat coffee logs for wood burners and open fires, these will be available to purchase in store from Autumn 2018.

“Additional cardholder offers we are introducing from July include; 10 per cent saving on selected loose fruit and veg lines, exclusive cardholder savings on selected café and counter lines along with a 10 per cent saving on Booths packaged loose tea and coffee beans.”

The changes will come into effect from July 2.
