IN THE normally sleepy village of Barbon lies one of the most famous and shortest motor racing hillclimb tracks in the world, Barbon Hillclimb, and on Saturday (July 7) sees the second exhilarating speed hillclimbs for cars, the British Hillclimb Championship, hosted by Barbon Manor, near Kirkby Lonsdale, and organised by Liverpool Motor Club. At only 890 yards (814 metres) in length it makes for short, fast, on the edge runs, and for those experienced competitors, can be accomplished in just 40 seconds. The event is also a qualifying round of regional championships so you can be sure to see many cars and drivers competing for position in their own championships. This is an exciting, noisy event and spectators are positively encouraged.
