TWO local croquet clubs were dominant at a regional competition that took place over the course of a weekend.

North West Federation of Croquet Clubs two day festival, held in Southport, saw 10 teams took part in three formats of the game.

Westmorland Croquet Club, based at Levens Hall, came third in the handicap association competition, second in short lawn association and third in the golf croquet section.

Overall the high placings in the three categories meant Westmorland were crowned overall Champions.

Meanwhile neighbouring Crake Valley, based at Greenodd, entered a golf croquet team for the first time ever and went the whole weekend undefeated.

The team won all eight team games to sail away with the trophy.

Both clubs are also doing well in the North West league, which runs through the summer months, occupying the top two positions at the half way stage.

Westmorland currently occupy the top spot in the league, with Crake Valley in second and only one point behind.

Both clubs are also looking for new players and further details can be found on the respective websites.
