A FUND has been set up for donations to the Milnthorpe Silent Soldier initiative to mark 100 years since the end of World War One.
A Silent Soldier is a life-sized metal silhouette painted black. The images, if cut from black dibond, should be both tough and weatherproof but moveable, so could be stored indoors when not in use.
The idea is being used in various parishes elsewhere in the country. The costs there are being funded at least partially by sponsorship from local businesses and donations.
The cost will be £150 per soldier. Donations can be made at Refresh Cafe in the Market Place. Any monies left over will be donated to this year’s Poppy Appeal.
