CLASSIC CARS, an historic house and glorious sunshine all contributed to the record number of visitors at this year's Classic Car and Bike Show.

The show, now in its 19th year, was held at Leighton Hall and attracted more than 2,000 visitors and more than 600 classic vehicles.

On display were Austin 7’s, MGs and Triumphs, as well as motorcycles, vans, trucks, 4x4s, military transport, and beautifully restored commercial vehicles.

Suzie Reynolds, owner of the hall, said that it was a 'record breaking year' in terms of visitor numbers.

"There were over 600 classic cars and motorbikes," she said. "And visitors looked around the house and garden and hopefully did not melt because it was a very hot day.

"Car people seem to love getting together and they like to meet people form other clubs. A lot of car clubs came and they meet people and just swap notes really. It's an event we love having. The house and park really lend itself to these sort of events."

Among the 15 car clubs in attendance included the Lakeland Historic Car Club, Warton Classic Vehicle Group, Silverdale Motor Club and various Lancashire MG clubs.

And the title of 'Best in Show' went to Frank Houlder for his Austin Healey 3000.

Mark Woodward, organiser of the show, said that there was a lot of regulars in attendance but there was also new people.

"The classic car market is very buoyant," he said. "A lot of people are buying classic cars. A lot of people turn up on the day to show their cars who have not booked in which is fine.

"I think a lot of people are buying classic cars as an investment because the banks are not paying interest."

Next year marks the show's 20th year and although Mr Woodward said they would do something to mark the occasion.

"We do nine classic car shows and Leighton has always been really friendly and chilled out," he said. "And we get a lot of cars so we will definitely be doing something for the 20th anniversary."
