BARROW's Sterling Lotteries has donated £10,000 to St Mary's Hospice in memory of John Martin.

Martin, the father of valued Sterling team member Donna Christie, was cared for by the Ulverston hospice team in early May.

Donna said: “I wanted to personally deliver the cheque to the hospice to say a heartfelt thank you to the whole team for the care and support they gave my Dad. St Mary’s do such amazing work, we were lucky to have them come into our lives at such a difficult time.

"I felt proud to hand over the cheque from Sterling and also hand over a fantastic £331.21 which were donations from our friends and family who attended my Dad’s funeral."

Head of fundraising at St Mary's Helen Carlson added: “Seeing Donna come in with such a staggering amount touched the heart of all the staff at St Mary’s. We have a huge mountain to climb annually to ensure we raise enough funds to keep our doors open to those who need us most and we are only able to do so because of the generosity of our community. The money Donna brought in will help to ensure we continue to offer the support to those who need us most. Thank you."
