BOYZONE'S appearance at Cartmel has been dubbed an overwhelming success after the Irish pop sensations wowed the crowds last week.

Thousands of fans were singing and dancing to the sounds of pop favourites Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch, in the evening sun at Cartmel Racecourse.

The chart toppers opened the Friday night show with the upbeat classic Picture of You.

The jovial crowds were treated to hits including Words, Baby Can I Hold You and When The Going Gets Tough.

Long time Boyzone fan and Allithwaite resident Jessica Brown was in the audience on Friday (June 29) night.

"Me, my friend Laura and her mum last saw Boyzone on October 25, 1997 and today we got to see them again," she said. " We were right at the front and had a great time, they where amazing! They shared their water and Keith handed me the first glass of Pimms he gave out to the crowd. All in all we had a great time and we’re privileged to have been able to see them live again after all these years! Their tribute to Stephen Gately reduced everyone to tears was very fitting and a lovely way to honour their fallen brother. Even my three year old Eli enjoyed the music too!"

The band's South Lakes visit formed part of the its 25th anniversary tour.

Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch make up one of the UK and Ireland’s most successful bands having sold 25 million records worldwide by 2013.

Steve Cooper, managing director at Cartmel Racecourse said that the team was 'genuinely delighted' with the success of its two day June Meeting.

“The beautiful sunny weather drew large crowds which created a wonderful, magical atmosphere," he said.

"We are particularly pleased with the overwhelmingly positive feedback from our Boyzone concert raceday. It was a real achievement for the Racecourse and all the racing staff involved. I’ve been involved in organising a lot of big events throughout my career but this definitely goes down as one of the best and most enjoyable!

"We’re lucky to have such supportive and enthusiastic crowds here at Cartmel and as always, they gave Boyzone a warm reception which the band responded to.”
