MORE THAN one hundred members of the Sedbergh School community powered up and down Casterton Fell in the seven mile 'Epic' run.

Among the 125 runners were every pupil in years 7 and 8, with nine countries represented and the youngest competitor just 11 years and 7 months.

In its second year, The Epic mirrors the legendary Wilson Run for sixth formers at the Senior School.

The race comes at the end of the summer exam season for years 7 and 8 but also brings together older students, staff and parents who are keen to encourage and share the experience with the younger runners.

This year, the Prep School honours went to a brother and sister combination. Sam and Millie Gunning, who finished in 62:36 minutes and 65:12 minutes respectively.

Other notable performances came from Senior School pupil, Jamie MacMillan, overall winner, in a remarkable 50:20 minutes and the first parent through the finish line, Rob Fielding, in just 52:03 minutes.

“These children never cease to amaze me,” said Will Newman, head teacher. “Their grit and determination to finish the job is extraordinary and the celebrations at the finish line show you what it means to them.”
