FAMILIES can have a real hoot at the Lakeland Maze Park when it opens later this month.

For the theme for the award-winning attraction at Sedgwick, near Kendal, will this year run on a wildlife theme and features a wise old owl named Maisie.

The current spell of hot weather has encouraged the maize crop to grow faster than ever ahead of the maze opening on July 14.

The theme has been chosen because Lakeland Maze – twice Maize Maze of the Year - is working in association with Cumbria Wildlife Trust (CWT) in 2018.

CWT experts have conducted various wildlife surveys around Raines Hall Farm, where the maze is based, and discovered all manner of creatures calling it ‘home’, including owls.

Negotiating all the twists and turns within Maisie will typically provide two hours of family fun, spread over a distance of around 8 acres.
