By Flared Nostril
WE had some excellent selections at York yesterday and the Flared Nostril cannot promise to match the five winners he came up with for you, including the 11-1 River Falcon in the last race!
All in all a memorable day, especially to see Authorized come back to his best and witness Frankie's flying dismount on the Yorkshire soil.
Now the Nostril is running into form, here's the griff for Ebor Day.
For the opener the 1.30pm I'm taking a longshot with Mark Tompkins' SMOKEY OAKEY, who I reckon is a lot better than bottom weight and beat the useful Eradicate earlier this season. Nanton is a danger among many in a trappy contest.
The Gimcrack Stakes doesn't seem to have attracted a top-class field and Aidan O'Brien's newcomer GREAT BARRIER REEF could be something special.
The Ebor is the banquet of handicaps to be laid before us and Purple Moon is going to be difficult to oppose.
But the Nose reckons that Paul Cole has a class animal in STRATEGIC MOUNT. A campaign to for the Guineas and Derby did not work out, but with the ground drying out nicely, he can bounce back to his best with Honolulu rated the biggest threat.
Pepping Fawn looks entitled to take the Yorkshire Oaks with the minimum of fuss, but a frash horse is always worth consideration and I reckon SILKWOOD from Michael Jarvis's stable will be decent odds to justify a small wager in the 3.10pm.
Other fancies are SAILOR AT SEA (3.50pm), IGUAZU FALLS (4.25) and SPECIAL DAY (5pm).
