DREAMCATCHER: Alex Hossack and Catherine Aubrey interpret your dreams

David’s Dream:

This dream starts with myself as a young girl in the middle of a crowd of people - in fact I am a man. However, I was half the size of the crowd.

I wandered through the town centre among the crowds of people. There was no noise in this dream and no other action took place.

I just wandered around the streets looking up at the people around me feeling lost.

Dream Interpretation:

The dream starts with the dreamer circled by a crowd, which suggests that he does not wish to stand out and that at the present time in his life he has little direction.

However, he may wish to become lost and hide his feelings from others. To do this he maintains his anonymity, and creates a facade for himself.

The fact that the dreamer is half the size of everyone else suggests that his feelings of being lost are reinforced and the dreamer is struggling with his sense of personal identity. To feel lost indicates that he has lost the ability to, or the motivation to make clear decisions.

Appearing as a member of the opposite sex is an attempt to access meaning and validity to the attributes and qualities of the opposite sex. Thus, as a man he may be attempting to access his more sensitive feminine side, his ‘anima’ which represents his emotional and intuitive senses.

This story sounds like an attempt to balance his psychological well being. Appearing as a woman often occurs when a man is neglecting the feminine side of himself. As he becomes more aware of feminine principles he will be able to feel warmth and a genuine sense of being.

In summary, this dreamer feels out of touch with himself and has emotionally shut down while he reviews himself and his life. At the end of the dream he still has not moved on.

If the dreamer would like to provide feedback about the interpretation, please send it to ACDreamcatchers@mail.com.

Interestingly, we have found it is not always possible to interpret your own dream, probably because it often represents the sublimation of feelings or thoughts that we are trying to avoid in our waking lives. However, with a little assistance from the dream interpreter, the symbols and themes can start to make sense and help us to move forward.

If you are interested in having a particular dream analysed, please send us an account of your dream to the following email address: ACDreamcatchers@mail.com

We only have space to interpret one dream a week which will be selected from those received. Please refer to the guidance provided to describe your dream as this will enable us to provide a full interpretation.

Guidance for the Dreamer:

• Record your dream in writing as soon as you wake up with as much detail as possible.

• First of all ask yourself who is in the dream.

• Where are you, what is happening to you and what is happening around you?

• Record how you are feeling about what you and/or others are doing.

• Are there particular symbols or objects in the dream that are unusual?

• Are there any sounds and is the dream in colour or black and white?

• Are you watching yourself in the dream or are you experiencing it first-hand ie: through your own eyes.
