First job
My parents were hairdressers with their own business so I was sweeping the floor and passing the rollers as soon as I could toddle about.
When I started out in the world for myself I went into the jewellery trade working behind the counter with customers and on the bench doing repairs.
What personal skills do you need in your current job
A good, solid, practical crafting knowledge. I have been knitting, sewing and crafting for 40 years people are always dropping in to pick my brains and see how we can get around a problem. Sometimes you really do have to ‘think outside the box’ to make things work the way you want them too.
What is your best business memory
Every time I get someone wanting to learn a new skill. I love starting beginners on their own knitting and sewing journey – showing them how to create and put colours together – they get so excited.
It is passing on skills that will see them through for the rest of their lives – and they can take it as far as they want too.
What is your worst business memory
It has to be Storm Desmond and other storms that winter.
The town just stopped dead and there was absolutely nothing we could do about it.
