A GROUP of pupils from Sedbergh School have completed a challenging bridleway route as part of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh award.

The horseriders successfully tackled the Calf, which is the highest peak in the Howgill Fells.

DofE Gold Horseback expeditions require participants to successfully ride and care for a horse or pony on a four-day mounted expedition with three overnight camps.

Travel by horse on a multi-day expedition requires a whole different style of training and planning than other forms of travel to ensure success in overcoming the unique challenges that horse & rider will encounter.

The horses were provided by Stonetrail Riding Centre based at Ravenstonedale who specialise in multi-day horse riding expeditions.

Gwynie Parry, head of outdoor pursuits for Sedbergh School said: “This week could not have gone better for us all; the combination of the professional delivery of support from Alison Muir and her team at Stonetrail, the talented and courageous participants themselves, the weather, and the enthusiasm and appetite of Sedbergh School for learning through adventure, produced a valuable, memorable experience for everyone involved.

"This is our third happy year of collaboration with Stonetrail – who knows where we may end up next time!”
