A GUIDE book inspired by Wainwright's walks in the Howgills and limestone country is to be reprinted and launched at Kirkby Stephen on July 29.

The Howgills and Limestone Trail guide was written by husband and wife David and Heather Pitt, of Latrigg, near Penrith, who are long-distance walkers and admirers of AW.

It was published in 2012 by Frances Lincoln following the success of the guide A Pennine Journey, in which Mr Pitt described a modern recreation of the walk done by Wainwright 80 years ago, in 1938.

The Howgills and Limestone Trail guide was inspired by the fellwalker's 1970s books Walks on the Howgill Fells and Walks in Limestone Country. It describes a 76-mile route from Kirkby Stephen to Settle, and it is being reprinted by Sigma Press.

The reprint is to be launched at the Western Dales Day at Kirkby Stephen on July 29. To mark the 80th anniversary of Wainwright's Pennine Journey, 80 copies each of his Howgills and limestone country books will be offered for sale at £5.50, half the original 2003 cover price, when bought with the reprinted guide.

The unsold copies of Wainwright's books came to light at Titus Wilson printers in Kendal during a search for memorabilia.
