A LAKE District barbershop is approaching their £2,000 fundraising goal after trimming hair at the top of England’s highest mountain.

Since climbing 978m high Scafell Pike in the early hours of July 1, the Barbers of Windermere have raised more than £1,600 for Cancer Research UK, and hope to surpass their fundraising target in the coming weeks.

Once this goal is achieved, the barbers aim to take their haircuts even higher.

They are currently planning further charity trims at the peaks of Snowdon and Ben Nevis, the highest mountains in Wales and Scotland.

The barbers’ fundraising mission was inspired by numerous conversations with clients, sharing personal stories of lives impacted by cancer.

Estimates suggest that half of people in Britain born after 1960 will get cancer at some point during their lives, and many more will be personally affected by the disease as friends and family face diagnosis.

They wanted to “do something a little different” to help a good cause, and so the Scafell summit haircuts were planned.

“Living in the Lake District surround by mountains, we thought what better idea that to climb the highest peak in England and cut hair at the very top,” said James Scott, director at the Barbers of Windermere.

The barbers believe they are the first to cut hair at the summit of Scafell, allowing them to claim the title of highest haircut in England for their charity endeavour.

Five barbers and five models ascended Scafell together, and the haircuts were filmed among panoramic Lake District views.
