A PENSIONER has died after falling on Helvellyn.

A host of emergency teams scrambled to the scene yesterday (Thursday) afternoon in an attempt to rescue the man.

They found a 73-year-old man from Preston. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The call-out came in about 2.20pm.

A police spokesman said: "His death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed."

Members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were in attendance and called on the help of their colleagues in the Penrith team before they were stood down.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service also attended.
