A COUNTY council owned carpark in Kendal is due to be opened up to the public.

Liberal Democrats on Cumbria County Council have announced that the car park at County Hall, which is currently only available to council staff, will soon be available to the general public.

This will add 330 more car parking spaces in the town centre.

Local councillor Peter Thornton said: “Making more spaces available for people to park their cars is crucial to the local economy.

"No one is allowed to use it currently other than County Hall staff. We need to do something with that car park because it's currently full of potholes and we need to work out exactly how to use it."

There is no timescale for when the car park will be made available to the general public, but it is understood it will be a pay and display facility.
