YOUNG people from South Lakeland taking part in the National Citizen Service programme raised money and awareness for mental health charity MIND.

They held a bake sale, busked and had a sponsored static spinning cycle in Kendal's town centre, where each team member took turns to complete around 10 miles each throughout the day, for a total of over 160 miles, and busking.

Local MP Tim Farron turned up to support the project and took part in the cycling. He praised the young people for their campaign and for the cause they were supporting.

The 14 individuals, all of whom are 16-17 year olds came up with the idea after considering charities which they all felt they could relate to in some way.

NCS is a three to four week experience that helps young people build their confidence and self belief so that they can take on anything in life.
