WHILE industry insiders and those in the know have had Lowes on their radar for a long time, their debut EP might come as a bolt from the blue for many.

The emerging indie pop outfit are set to create a stir when they launch their debut EP, ‘Elements’, on Friday.

The four-track release has been two years in the making, since they announced their arrival with a well-received single just over two years ago.

It is the culmination of a long creative process that has seen the band sign a deal with Sony International Records and travel to the Norwegian fjords to write and record, and shoot a short film about the experience.

Ulverston-based singer Evie Plumb said: “We were predominantly in Norway to record a film about who we are and how we work as band - something to show people what we’re about.

“Of course it was also a source of inspiration, because it’s like the Lake District on steroids!

“It was actually the label’s suggestion that we go to there as bands like Arcade Fire have been there previously. The aesthetics of the place are really in tune with what we’re about and where we’re from.

“We were in a glass-fronted studio that looked out on the ocean - it was such a crazy place to be.

“Our Norway film covers all the elements, and that’s a theme we have on the EP - each song represents a different element, without being too obvious.”

The final single is ‘Searching’, which will be released to complete the EP.

Members have featured in bands that have played across Europe before, including electro-rockers The Feud, but this project looks set to far outstrip anything they’ve ever been a part of to date.

Based across South Cumbria and Lancaster, the majority of live appearances have come close to home at places such as Kendal Calling and EskFest, but to a wider audience they are still a bit of an unknown quantity.

Evie continued: “We weren’t even really a band two years ago when we put out ‘Awake At Night’, but we quickly realised that we couldn’t not make it a full-time band.

“I was still finishing off my degree and everyone had other jobs, so it took a while to get going, but we’ve been working hard and we’ve got a big batch of songs that we can’t wait to record.

“There was quite a big gap between the single and the EP, and Sony came on board around October last year.

“A lot of our fans seem to live in Europe, so it would be great to finally play in that part of the world.”
