FAMILIES can take a walk on the wild side this summer at the Lake District Wildlife Park, Bassenthwaite, near Keswick. The popular family attraction is running a special family event with one of its most popular animals until September 16. You can experience being a Red Panda Ranger by completing a fun quiz while learning about these gentle creatures, their habitats and the conservation work taking place to protect them. Special talks, displays and mask-making activities are on offer for youngsters to get involved with. So, if you fancy getting up close to a gorgeous Red Panda or Lemur then go on line and book your time (one hour). All donations will go to the charity Red Panda Network. Alternatively, just visit the park and enjoy observing ALL the animals.

ULLSWATER Steamers' famous Fish Supper cruise features a two hour evening cruise on Ullswater, with musical entertainment from Pete Lashley, the popular singer-musician- songwriter. A delicious fish & chip meal can be enjoyed with a veggie option available on booking. The steamer will leave the pier at Pooley Bridge at 7pm on Wednesday (September 5). Dogs are not permitted. BURNESIDE Amateur Theatrical Society presents Showstoppers 2018 – Hooray For Hollywood – celebrating movie musicals. Songs from the films include Calamity Jane, Singin’ in the Rain, The Jazz Singer, Top Hat, Grease and many more. 142nd LOWESWATER Show takes place on Sunday (September 2) from 10am-5.30pm. This well-attended, traditional agricultural show, held in one of the most attractive parts of the Northern Lake District, close to Loweswater and Buttermere, doesn’t need to vie too hard against its contemporaries to gain its own rosettes for ‘best show in stunning setting!’ The shows emphasis is on livestock, but there are many other attractions including the Lake District & Cumbrian Sport of fell racing for all ages, ever-present Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling, vintage section, local crafts and so much more. AMBLESIDE Days – A Contemporary Jazz Festival is to take place at Zeffirellis Jazz Club, Ambleside. This four-day extraordinary festival is jam-packed with musicians and artists, such as Joe Locke, Paul McCandless, Tim Garland, Thomas Gould, Jason Rebello, Darryl Hall and many, many more. MILNTHORPE & District Horticultural & Craft Show takes place on Saturday (September 1) at St Thomas’ Church, Milnthorpe. Doors open at 1pm, the presentation of awards takes place at 3.30pm. The show covers all the traditional classes, ie: vegetables, flowers, fruit, baking, arts & crafts, children’s classes and much more. There’s a café with homemade cakes, a raffle and an auction of produce after the presentation of awards.
