ENFORCEMENT officers with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) are investigating a fly-tipping incident in a cul-de-sac at the top of Brigsteer Road in Kendal.
Five mattresses and a black bin liner full of rubbish were discovered dumped in the countryside location by a member of the public last Thursday night.
A spokesman for SLDC said that between April 1 and July 31 of this year, the local authority responded to 41 cases of fly-tipping in the area.
"We investigate every case of fly-tipping which is reported to us and, if appropriate and possible, action is taken," said the spokesman. "This can range from warning letters being issued to prosecutions, potentially significant fines and even custodial sentences.
"SLDC relies on the public for help in tracing those who are responsible and we urge anyone with information about fly-tipping to ring 01539 733333.”
