MARK Johnston's Golden Quest should not be overlooked for this afternoon's Casarewitch (3.55) at Newmarket, writes Flared Nostril.
The Rainbow Quest gelding had dropped 13lb in the handicap since last winning. Admittedly this was a couple of seasons ago, but the selection is not badly treated on his effort behind the quietly fancied Leg Spinner at Ascot in August (8lb better for a five and a half length beating). Yet he is four times the odds of that rival at a massive 66-1 compared to that rival's quote of 8-1.
Denied a clear run in the straight, Golden Quest came back up the rail but was further hampered when the jockey dropped his whip.
He has done all his winning on a soft surface, and with a bit of juice in the ground at Newmarket, everything seems to have come together nicely for Johnston's charge to mount a serious bid in a very open-looking race.
Henry Cecil's Multidimensional has been aimed at Newmarket's Champion Stakes (3.15)and is a relatively fresh horse against campaigners who have been on the go all season.
His latest gallop was impressive according to HQ watchers.
Other fancies are physically imposing New Approach in the Dewhurst (2.40) and Comply or Die at Cheltenham (3.30), who is on a lenient mark if David Pipe has got him back to his best.
