AFTER 47 years on the cutting edge of gents' hairdressing, a Kendal man is retiring from his well-known local business.
Gordon Fitzgerald, 70, of Windermere Road, Kendal, has owned the gents' barbers and shaver repair shop at Stricklandgate since 1961.
Mr Fitzgerald grew up in Kendal and has lived in the town all his life, but in the early days it was four lads from his birth town, Liverpool, that nearly put paid to his burgeoning business.
"When the Beatles came along business went down dramatically and Kendal lost a lot of hairdressers," said Mr Fitzgerald.
"Thankfully, shorter styles gradually came back into fashion."
