OUTDOOR enthusiasts struggling for last minute Christmas present ideas can buy a piece of path in a bid to mend the fells.
The Lake District's paths are world-renowned and with 20 million pairs of feet trampling on them each year, excessive wear and tear has left ugly scars and severe erosion.
Partnership project Fix the Fells has already repaired 120 badly damaged routes, but has another 50 to go and with a cost of £100 for repairing just one metre, yuletide donations are being sought.
Fix the Fells project adviser Richard Fox explained that a gift of £10 would pay for a metre of path-side vegetation to be restored or £25 would cover the cost of moving stone to a site, and added that donations could be made online.
An instant certificate with a personalised message showing how the money will help can be printed out when a donation is made online.
