A FIRE that gutted a car and a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) and was threatening to spread to overhanging trees precipitated a multi-agency response.
Both vehicles were already 'well alight' when fire crews arrived at the scene today.
Firefighters worked both to bring the blaze under control and prevent pollution of a beck close to the scene along the B5286 near Hawkshead.
Roger Exley, station manager for Barrow and cluster six, said: "Great inter-agency work with our colleagues from the police and the Environment Agency.
"The crews were working in arduous conditions and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent woodland and an environmentally-sensitive area becoming polluted."
Mr Exley said there were no injuries.
