AN elderly woman has been taken to hospital suffering from serious burns at a fire in her home in South Lakeland.
The 78-year-old woman was rescued from her burning home, in Ghyll Close, Windermere, by a police officer and two other occupants of the house, at 3.45pm today.
She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital along with a male, who was suffering from smoke inhalation. Her condition has been described as poorly'.
Firefighters from Windermere, Ambleside and Staveley put out the flames using one main jet, two hosereels, four breathing apparatus, thermal image camera and ladders.
The blaze caused extensive damage to the first floor of the property, where the woman was found by the patrolling police officer.
