Warm up for Glastonbury

PEDDLERS of nu-jazz, the Neil Cowley Trio, head to Kendal next week for a gig that should warm them up perfectly for their slot at Glastonbury.
Mixing funk, rock and dance music along with their piano-jazz roots, Neil Cowley, Richard Sadler (double bass) and Evan Jenkins (drums) will appear at the Brewery Arts Centre on Thursday (May 22).
The trio, who got together in 2006, will be playing music from their debut album Displaced - an offering that is said to have cemented their place as influential runners in the jazz scene.
You can see them in the Malt Room from 7.45pm and tickets cost from £10.50.
Tomorrow (Saturday), meanwhile, the Kendal venue plays host to two up-and-coming acts - Jon Redfern and Heidi Talbot.
Folk musician Jon - who counts Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson among his fans - will be appearing with his band while Heidi Talbot - best known for her role fronting the Irish group Cherish the Ladies - will be singing as part of a duo and you can catch both acts, on stage in the Malt Room, from 8pm onwards.
