BIG CITY criminals are targeting cashpoints in South Lakeland.
Numerous bank customers have reported that their accounts have been drained of money.
Police believe that villains from London, Manchester and Birmingham are taking advantage of the district's low crime rate to fleece users of ATMs in rural towns as they were likely to be less vigilant, when withdrawing cash, than people in urban areas.
Cumbria Police Crime Prevention Officer Terry Belshaw said police had received more than ten reports of card fraud over the last weekend, with the epicentre being the Barclays Bank ATM at Morrisons supermarket in Kendal.
