THE driver of a delivery vehicle had a miraculous escape this morning after his lorry was in collision with a listed archway at the entrance to a South Lakeland hotel.
The accident happened at 8.30am and saw more than a ton of stone dropped on top of the cabin of the vehicle which had been delivering fruit and vegetables to the Graythwaite Manor Hotel at Grange-over-Sands.
Hotel owner Jimmy Duncan said that it was "a miracle" that the driver had escaped alive. The cost of repairing the damage to the archway is estimated to exceed £10,000.
The driver has been taken to Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal, with minor injuries.
