Two second half goals from Carlisle’s Steve Dobie and a goal each from Danny Carlton and Luke Joice was enough to consign Kendal Town to their first defeat of the season.
However Lee Ashcroft’s men can take plenty of positives away from their first friendly of the season despite the 4-0 score line.
In an entertaining game Kendal rarely looked outclassed by their League 1 opposition, and a 0-0 half time score was testament to both Kendal’s fitness levels and Carlisle’s inability to break down their Cumbrian rivals.
Carlisle brought two teams and gave each a half, and it proved to be the difference between to two sides. While Kendal had matched their visitors football in the first half, creating several chances and playing some neat attractive football, the injection of pace brought about with a completely new team was too much for Kendal to compete with, and Carlisle cut into the Town side scoring four in the second half.
Kendal face Hyde United next Saturday, and will look to build on the positive displays of players such as Alex Taylor and Lee Mulvaney along with a spirited team performance in next Saturdays game.
