RSPB officers are celebrating following the discovery of an unprecedented three osprey chicks in a nest overlooking Bassenthwaite.
Bird experts at the Lake District Osprey Project had previously glimpsed at least two osprey chicks.
However, on Thursday a health check of the chicks revealed three baby birds in the nest.
In previous years officers were able to monitor the nest via a secret camera in the nesting tree but this year, a late switch to a new nesting site by the breeding pair of adult birds made this impossible.
