Bay walks guide condemns route change idea

A REPORT looking into the possibility of changing the finish point of the ever-popular Morecambe Bay walks has been condemned by the Queen’s Official Guide to the Sands.

Grange town councillor Tony Coles carried out a survey of the traffic and parking problems generated fortnightly by people taking part in cross bay walks as hundreds trek the eight-mile route across the sands from Arnside to Kents Bank in the summer months.

Coun Coles told a town council meeting that his study was designed to look at ways of co-ordinating the walks more successfully by finishing them in Grange itself.

But the idea to change the finishing point of the walks was condemned by the Queen’s Official Guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson, who said it would be dangerous for walkers due to the marshy ground and quicksand in that area. He said there were problems with traffic everywhere and the walks raised millions of pounds for charity. They did not take place every week and local residents needed to be more tolerant.
