A RECORD number of teams tackled one of the UK’s toughest charity challenges to raise nearly half a million pounds for charity.
Sixty teams took part in the Wooden Spoon Four Peaks Challenge, in which groups of two runners and one driver race across the British Isles in an attempt to scale four of its tallest mountains in less than 48 hours.
Ben Nevis, Snowdon, Carantouhill in Ireland and the Lakes’ own Helvellyn feature in the contest, which this year raised £459,184 for disabled and disadvantaged young people and their families.
The race was won by Dubai-based team, The Flyers, who completed the mammoth task in just 8 hours, 4 minutes and 12 seconds.
