GRAYGRIGG villagers celebrated the opening of their new energy saving community centre today.

The town’s Coronation Hall is the first in the region to benefit from the cross-party Sustainable Village Halls project, which will pay for 12 more public buildings in the region to go Green.

The formerly cold, high energy using building has been turned into warm, modern energy efficient centre. Antarctic Herdwick sheep wool has been used for insulation, and a set of solar panels on the roof power an air source heat pump.

The project was a partnership between Voluntary Action Cumbria, Cumbria County Council, Cumbria and Lancashire Renewable Energy Network and the Lake District National Park Authority.
