SOUTH Lakeland could share in a jobs bonanza created by a £2 billion investment plan unveiled by the Government.

Business Secretary John Hutton announced the regeneration plan to transform West Cumbria into Britain's Energy Coast during a speech delivered at Sellafield Visitors' Centre today.

It is thought 16,000 new jobs will be created by the investment and the jobs bonanza will almost certainly have a positive ripple effect for people from South Lakeland who are seeking work.

The main boost to the local economy will come with a new nuclear reactor at Sellafield. The regeneration cash will also provide money for schools and an acute hospital in West Cumbria.
