Kendal Town pulled off a great pre-season upset last night, running out 3 – 1 winners against a strong Morecambe side.
Sammy Mcllroy sent out a team containing several first team players and the visitors has swept into an early lead after only two minutes through a Rene Howe header. However, their game plan was completely disrupted when keeper Scott Davis was sensationally sent off on 17 minutes after bundling over Alex Taylor as the Town man had dummied his way past the keeper.
While Barry Roche saved Taylor’s poor penalty with his first touch of the game, it was Kendal who went on to dominate in the pouring rain. With good work by Gareth Arnison setting up Lee Mulvaney for the equaliser halfway though the first half.
As the second half got underway the wet conditions saw tackles flying in as the ball flew around the greased pitch. With the home side beginning to run the 10 men ragged. On the 63rd minute, on as a sub, Callum Warburton found himself in space from all of 30 yards out and unleaded a fierce shot that flew into the bottom right hand corner of the net, giving the home side a deserved lead.
With no threat coming from the clearly tiered league two men, Kendal finished off the game in style, Taylor amending for his penalty miss – finishing from close range after a cross from Mulvany making the final score 3-1 to the home side.
