A GP from Ambleside is urging patients and their families to help him monitor the impact of changes at Westmorland General Hospital.

Dr David Earnshaw believes the closures of the Kendal hospital's heart unit and a key medical ward, which are taking place this month, will put lives at risk and is urging patients who are diverted to Lancaster or Barrow for treatment, to tell him about their experiences - good or bad.

The GP, who works as an out-of-hours GP at WGH, believes asking patients to travel further afield for emergency care is dangerous.

What do you think? Have you had a good or bad experience at either the Royal Lancaster Infirmary or Barrow's Furness General Hospital?

Email Dr Earnshaw direct at david.earn@btinternet.com or contact the Gazette's health reporter Ellie Hargreaves at ellie.hargreaves@kendal.newsquest.co.uk
