POLICE are warning customers who used a cashpoint at a Kendal supermarket to check their bank accounts.

A device used to steal money from bank accounts was discovered attached to the Barclays Bank ATM outside the Morrisons supermarket in Kendal by a member of staff this morning (Tuesday).

The device is used by criminals to skim the details from the credit or debit cards of customers who use the cashpoint.

The fraudster then uses the information to steal money from their bank account.

According to police, there was nothing attached to the machine when it was checked the previous night so they are appealing for information for anyone who saw anything suspicious to come forward.

The police are also advising anyone who may have used the machine during this time to check their accounts and, if they have had money stolen, to contact their bank and also the police.

A police spokesman said: “I would advise customers to use ATM’s within bank premises wherever possible and, when using ATM’s outside check for anything unusual attached to the machine.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Kendal CID on 0845-3300-247.
