MOUNTAIN rescuers searching for a missing man from Stoke have found a body in the Lake District.

Simon Bally, 48, of Foxt, Stoke-on-Trent was due to meet his partner at Penrith train station on Monday however he failed to turn up and had not been in contact with family or friends since Saturday (August 16).

Police launched a widespread search across North Cumbria and the Lake District and Mr Bally’s VW camper van was found parked at Gatesgarth Pass at the far end of Buttermere Valley.

At around 5pm yesterday (Tuesday) members of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team found the body of a man on nearby Striddle Crag on the west face of Fleetwith Pike.

The man has yet to be formally identified.
