Elderly man dies in fire

AN ELDERLY man has died after fire broke out in his South Lakeland home early today.
Firefighters from Kirkby Lonsdale and Milnthorpe were called to the blaze at Low Moor End, Hutton Roof at 1.37am.
A Cumbria Fire spokesman said the alarm was raised after neighbours woke to the smell of smoke.
He said the man who died was in his nineties.
The first firemen arrived on the scene to find the property was well alight and a further two appliances, one from Arnside and one from Kendal, were requested.
"The incident involved an end terrace property and the fire was extinguished using four breathing apparatus and two hose reels," said the spokesman.
