A WOMAN died after she fell from a mountain ridge in the Lake District.
According to police, the woman was walking along Sharp Edge on Blencathra near Keswick at around 2.30pm on Friday when she fell from the ridge along with her husband and young daughter.
The accident sparked a massive rescue operation involving police, Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, the RAF Mountain Rescue Team, the Great North Air Ambulance and two RAF Sea King helicopters from RAF Kinloss.
The 48-year-old man and his six-year-old daughter were airlifted to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle where their injuries are described as not life threatening.
However, the 38-year-old woman died as a result of her injuries.
The family is from the Peterborough area but police have not released their identities.
